8139too and the x59 freevents [hy 12 twinhead]

hi everyone any advice appriciated
my laptop is a phillips x59 freevents [hy 12 twinhead with a different name

trying to install any distro hangs/crashes
it is to do with 8139too i have tried to follow some instruction on ubuntu forum but struggled

ideally i would like to install linux mint
i have to get in to the boot and change the 8139too pio to mmio

i was curious whilst opening the cd from my computer in vista you can get to the file folders for mint is it not possible to change things there

either way if anyone could help me get this sorted so that i can dual boot for now

yes im a newbie and therefore not that wise on how to do things
i can only spend a few hours a week trying to sort this problem as i need to stay productive it is frustrating and no doubt i will eventually get round it

thanks up front for any advise

just a little fyi for you linux mint is ubuntu with some minor changes and when i say minor i mean the loading screen and the graphics on gnome
if you want an honest opinion use ubuntu as ive used linux mint and its not worth it its buggy and slow and crashes alot so best bet is use ubuntu might also solve your problem ( not trying to sound like an ass here probaley seems that way tho)
