8.10 Kubuntu install gone wrong, file system read-only?
After loading Adept last night, it told me there was a new distro, so I clicked update, and began the installation.

Everything went smoothly until the last step, when the installer froze up, and then the reboot button popped up. Clicked it, and instead of the update going smoothly, an error came up saying Unclean Shutdown, checking drives. It gets to about 36%, freezes, and then goes to terminal, saying the following

/dev/sda1: Inodes that were part of a corrupted orphan linked list found.

 (i.e., without -a or -p options)
fsck died with exit status 4
Checking drive /dev/sda1: 36% (stage 1/5, 308/585) [fail]

It says the fsck should be performed in maintenance mode, although I don't exactly understand how to do that. (Still don't know how to do anything on that blasted box of mine).

I suggest that you boot a live CD and run fsck against /dev/sda1.
