64-bit netbook: max RAM 3.5G?

Hi all,

I recent bought a new Asus Eee netbook. It is the 1215B-SIV128M with the AMD E450 "Fusion" chipset.

The netbook came with 4GB of RAM and it is a 64-bit system; I installed 64-bit Mint 12 on it. So far so good.

I am wondering why it only sees 3.5G of RAM. Top indicates 3650288k total RAM to be precise.

I realize with harddisks you don't get the full number, but I have two 64-bit desktop systems, which do appear to see all the RAM installed. Is there something special about these Fusion chips? Is 3.5G the maximum they can see?

The rest is likely being taken by your video chipset, your other systems probably have dedicated cards with their own RAM.

Ah, that would explain it. Yes, the built-in video uses shared RAM. Thanks.
