1400x1050 HP nx5000 blues..SOLUTION READ ON!

G'day

Kiwi Newbie here, 1st time so treat me gentle.

I have an nx5000 HP laptop which now has dual boot Winxp pro/Suse 9.1 Prof and things run sweet other than bluetooth/wifi, but thats not the issue.

I got the nx5000 with the good screen that goes to 1400x1050, but for the life of me, I can't get the bugger to run at that res under Suse. I've done everything poss I can think of.

Anybody else had this and fixed the prob? My mate has a dell with the same res screen and he's sweet!

Cheers

GOOD NEWS

I've found a SOLUTION.

WELL DONE HP.

Dear HP Customer,

Thank you for contacting HP eServices.

This is in response to your e-mail regarding the Nx5000 notebook.

From your e-mail, we understand that you are unable to run at the stated 1400x1050 resolution under Linux.

To resolve the issue, please can download a utility called 855resolution from http://perso.wanadoo.fr/apoirier/. This is a 3rd party utility and is not supported by HP. The Readme.txt file in the source code provides steps to compile the application. The 855resolution utility will overwrite a selected video mode. This makes 1400x1050 support possible, but this resolution isn't truly supported by the i810 video driver, but appears to work. The video bios overwrite is not permanent and must be executed before the customer starts the X Window System (i.e. KDE). The utility can be executed manually, but may be included in /etc/init.d/boot.local to run at boot.
