\ubnldr.mbr missing or corrupt during linux mint install.

Im trying to install linux mint on my toshiba satellite. Formerly had 8.1 but upgraded to windows 10. Im using unetbootin to install the linux mint iso from my hard drive as i dont have a blank disc or usb. When i reboot and select unetbootin i get this error.

File: \ubnldr.mbr
status: 0xxx000000f
Info: The application or operating system couldn't be loaded because a required file is missing or contains errors.

Any idea how to fix this?

You may need to disable secure boot. The issue is sort of a windows and linux issue I'd think along with new uefi bios.

If you want to keep uefi then I'd think using dd or wintousb to take this hybrid iso. Or I'd use 7zip to copy the contents of the iso to a fat32 flash.

Legacy boot should work on a unebootin.

Not sure how well unetbootin would make it uefi.

Hello and welcome to LQ too.

uefi isn't as standard as it should be. Some major bugs still.

Disabling secure boot didnt help. Also legacy boot asks for a bootable usb or disk, which i dont have. Any other tips?

Make a usb the way mint suggests instead of using unetbootin.

Your bios may have both boot legacy and run legacy. The unetbootin usb should always be able to boot into legacy. It's usually harder to get it to boot into uefi.
