[Toshiba] dvd-rom

I have a Toshibe Satellite A30 series laptop. Both in Linux and Windows it is showing that the optical drive is DVD-ROM and refuses me to write any DVD. However, on the media itself it is written DVD (ROM/R/RW). Also, in Windows' Device Manager it is coming up as DVD-ROM SD-R6112.

Is it actually a DVD-Rom or do I need to upgrade any driver?

ROM=Read Only Memory

Sorry, you won't be able to write with a ROM. It probably says something like "CD-RW/DVD-ROM Drive" which means it should write CD's and read DVD's.
