Where does my own code reside?

I am writing some code for my embedded linux project.

I will be generating a new kernel

Where should my code be saved?

How will the compiler know where my code is?

(1) Wherever you want
(2) You compile in the same directory your code is (or you use a Makefile that says where)

I'd reckon that'd be somewhere in your /home directory, I'd make a new folder there to keep things tidy.

You could create a 'build' directory in your home to keep things clean. That way there will be no confusion.
