what extent we can downsize a linux kernel

Dear members,

I would like know to what extent we can downsize a linux kernel. I want run an embedded web server on top it. The concern is I have limited ROM and RAM. I will be happy if I run a kernel of size 50K-100K. Is it possible in linux? How good linux is for embedded web server application?

Can someone give a clear picture on this?
