ubuntu12.04 "eth0 device not found"

Hi Guys,

I am now using ubuntu12.04 with kernel version 3.5.0-42.
I got kernel 3.5.1 from kernel.org and build my own modules and kernel just in order to run my own kernel. After i did the job it booted OK, but network no longer available. With command 'ifconfig eth0' it printed err infor 'eth0 device not found'. I checked with 'lspci',hardware infor can be found: '02:00.0 Ethernet controller:Marvell Tchnology Group Ltd. 88E8057 PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 10)'. Does this mean the driver is ok? if it is, in what way can i continue to tackle the problem ? Thanks a lot!

Welcome to LQ.

To find out, please provide full output of
Code:
lspci -knn | grep -iA3 ether
This will tell us the kernel driver in use (if any) and the kernel modules for your Ethernet controller, and in addition the vendor and model IDs.
