Transfering modified kernel from host to target

I can find plenty on how to create a new bootable linux by cross compiling. But, suppose that I just want to modify some modules or labels and boot the new kernel. I can understand how to create a new u-boot for the boot sequence.

I just want to install the modified kernel as a package like I was upgrading from a web repository. I don't want to lose the programs installed from packages nor do I want to lose the ones that I have natively compiled. Can I install the modified kernel as a package?

I believe that I can install the executables as packages (.deb, .ipk, etc).

Hi,

the short answer is yes. For a better answer it would be helpful to tell us what system you want to install it on.
