system.map and config file is not generated after compilation
hi there,
this is gaurav.even if i have tried the kernel compilation 2-3 times successfully...i am not managed to compile the kernel 2.6.30 successfully as the entries system.map and config were not created under boot directory.
please help me to get over this.i have religiously followed the kernel configuration steps(i have configured kernel manually).i am using fedora core 7.
There are thousands of guides out there - some good, some not. You haven't given any information so no-one is going to be able to help you.
The compile process doesn't put generated files in /boot - you have to do that yourself, or use "make install".
Actually i have referred the tutorial on howtoforge.net...its good tutorial in my opinion which has mentioned each and every details of compiling a kernel..i hope,i have not missed on that thing....to be more informative,i already have 2-3 compiled
kernels on my machine(All the kernels are healthy,i can boot from each kernel)i have compiled and installed the latest kernel 2.6.30....i made suitable grub entries and tried to boot from this kernel...but not able to do so...the vmlinuz file is also not there in /boot...i have tried changing the symlink to new installed kernel source tree...it couldnt work either.
