Symbol references in kernel modules: export_symbol vs export_symbol_gpl

I am having issues referencing a set of symbols from my kernel module. Can anyone tell me if I want to reference a symbol that is exported using "export_symbol_gpl", do I need to make my module free under GPL? Also how can I do that?

Solved it, yes GPL exported symbols are only available to modules that register as a GPL.

MODULE_LICENSE("GPL")
