Problems with kernel (and drivers) size after migration from Slackware64 14.1 to 14.2

Hi! Although I already described my problem on Slackware-related forum, I've got a feeling it rather belongs here.

First of all, read, please, the problem description at the URL given above. Further investigation using "size" gave the result:

size vmlinux.old vmlinux.oversized vmlinux.current

text data bss dec hex filename
5017325 3148400 25137152 33302877 1fc295d vmlinux.old
14465558 43753416 25255936 83474910 4f9b9de vmlinux.oversized
10957445 16998088 16728064 44683597 2a9d14d vmlinux.current

- vmlinux.old is a 4.7 kernel compiled in Slackware 14.1
- vmlinux.oversized is a 4.7 kernel from Slackware 14.2, compiled using same config file
- vmlinux.current is a 4.7 kernel from Slackware 14.2, compiled using config file after I did some tweaking

As you see, I managed to reduce present kernel size a bit, but it's still far larger - about twice as big (so are most of driver module files). My question is: how can I reduce "text" and "data" size to shrink it to former size, as it was in Slackware's 14.1 environment? And what actually changed - using Linux many years first time I see something that strange. Is some linked (new in 14.2) library the culprit perhaps?

Update: OK, managed to fix the size problem - still no idea, what caused this, exactly during switch to newer version of distro.
