patching the kernel

I patched the libata portion of the kernel in order to test a patch. My question is, is there a way to just compile the libata.c file, and not the entire kernel everytime I am issued a new patch to test?

this should make you a new module (in /usr/src/linux):

make drivers/ata/libata.ko
