Let me give u a general/basic idea of patch..assume that you have a software/system, one with version 10 and other with version 8. Now you want to add some of the feature of version 10, on the system with version 8(which are not there in 8).
Options:
Boot the system (8) with 10 and get all the added facilities, OR create a patch of the added facilities u want and apply it on 8.
generally patch files contains the diff of the 2 versions. There are certain commands to create or apply a patch. Or to ease ur work u can customise ur own script to do the same..

I am pretty new in this forum, but I am a member of some other forums like this from a long time. I have noticed everywhere that guys are are asking certain questions without doing proper homework. In open sources we are always ready to help others, but that should be according to the technical level of the forum.
