partion disabled
Hello All,
While taking backup of MBR unexpectedly performed some wrong operation my ntfs partion got disable i have tried to recover by using gparted but no use still it showing extended partion i have my valuable data in that partion. Kindly suggest how to get that one back. Tried by testdisk it is not showing my disabled extended partion |
(MUch) more information required - say "fdisk -l" to start.

hmm in this case i haven't take any backup..............but can't we restore this partion or how should i retrieve the data

What do you mean by "disabled" ?. gparted can find the /dev/sda5 label, so presumably the filesystem is intact.
First thing, go get another drive at least as big as that, and dd the entire drive over for backup. I suspect that extended needs to be deleted and an extended created to cover most, if not all, the Linux partitions. That (current) /dev/sda3 is an obvious worry as a filesystem can't be found. I might be inclined to get rid of it. Might take a bit of trial and error - that's why you take the backup before you start. |
