"Page Up" key during boot time kernel panic?

Hi. I compiled and installed 3.9.2 stable kernel from kernel.org. During early boot, the kernel panics and about three screens' worth of trace information speeds by in about 200 milliseconds (give or take a nanosecond). I'm pretty sure that some clue about what went wrong is displayed somewhere near the top. Is there some secret "Page Up" key combination that will allow me to see that? (The "Page Up" button itself doesn't seem to work.)

Hi, shift+page up

But it may be of no use after a panic.
