Because you don't say which version of Ubuntu you are using, I can only guess it's the desktop version of Ubuntu. Therefore it would be helpful if you provided a little more information, to help us better assist you.

If you haven't already, you might consider looking at Ubuntu Server Edition instead of the desktop version of Ubuntu, which might be a lot better, if you intend on using your machine as a server rather that a desktop machine.

Hi,

I too had the same prob of a previous install in ubuntu 17.10.

try
apt-get -f install

first

or

install synaptic package manager and i believe you can click on status and it will show your unmet dependancies and you can mark them for removal as far as ive read.

Now in my case I had a install of libreoffice fail, then i had a bunch of unmet depencies. I tried the
apt-get -f install
it did not do anything
I tried a bunch of other things including
sudo apt-get --fix install(or something like that ... sorry i forget the cmd)
and everything led me in loops. then i just did a re-install of ubuntu 17.10.

theres also a good webpage at:

sudo apt-get openssh-server
The install command is
Code:

To install Ubuntu sshd .deb, omitting 'install' keyword in apt-get openssh-server fails: E: unmet dependencies

Just fji, I believe 'openssh-server' is the desktop name for sshd pkg
(I remember trying to figure out this pkg name, to use putty into Ubu VBox,
similar to how I now run busybox's telnetd -l /bin/sh, with no /etc/passwd)

Also, @akkki, when you mark this Thread as solved, you might also:
Edit the Title, to something more descriptive, to help future searchers.
"To install Ubuntu sshd .deb, omitting 'install' keyword in apt-get openssh-server fails: E: unmet dependencies"
You can do this, by clicking on 'Go Advanced' button, after 'Edit' on post#1.
Thank you for your consideration. Best wishes always. Welcome to Linux
