Oprofile: sample files r not created!!! kernel -2.6.16

hi all,
i wanna profile my system, for which i hve activated all the reqd options
in the kernel,and started oprofile.

Now,the psuedo filesystem for profile i.e /dev/oprofile is created n populated.
The events that i wanna monitor(which is obtained from ophelp)have been configured (#opcontrol --event=...............)
on #opcontrol --start
the daemon also starts
I can see things coming up in /var/lib/oprofile/oprofiled.log
even all the event related configuration that i've done gets reflected
in /dev/oprofile/<counter-number> directories.

but sample files are not created in /var/lib/oprofile/samples/current
which always remains empty.

M i missing nything,or do i need to do any more of the configration????????????????

regards
rakesh
