After I installed Slackware, using the guide at bitbender forums. I started X, and I noticed my sound didn't work. I went to the Nvidia site and downloaded the NFORCE driver that I needed. I installed the driver as it instructed.

"In order for the installer to build the driver, the kernel source needs to be installed."
Source - the nvidia site with the Nforce driver for linux.

The funny thing is, I watched the installer build the driver, without me having to install the kernel source. I don't understand this.....What do I have to do in order for my sound to work?

PS. I'm using bare.i Kernel that comes with slackware.

so the driver is loaded? use 'lsmod' to check. also check the README/INSTALL file that should have came with your driver download/website instructions. maybe you need to run 'alsamixer' to unmute the controls and/or turn them up? then run 'alsactl store' to save settings. hope that helps.
