So I impulse purchased an Ubuntu Lucid book with included install disk today. I'm thinking I wanna install it on this old Dell D620 with an Nvidia NVS 110m, but I need help picking which driver I should use before the ubuntu stuff gets here. As you can see here, there are lots of choices, from 2013 to 2017. Idk which would be the best option for kernel 2.6 for lucid. Maybe 2013 because it's closest to the release of 2.6? Or maybe the latest one would work? Possibly one in between? I'm aiming for best compatibility with early 2010's stuff.

That's the first place I went, but then I asked myself "how does Nvidia know the exact right version of the driver I need for my use case?", since there's so many drivers that are compatible with the 110m. See what I mean?
Thanks anyway, I guess their recommended version will be the first one I try, I hope kernel 2.6 takes well to it.

I guess the answer is: sure, you can try that. Might even work.

Frankly, I wouldn't spend too much energy on it since you should never, ever connect to the wild web with that old version, and will never, ever get any updates for it (or even be able to install any software that isn't from that era.

Yes, I think that's the right approach.
