linux ramdisk for firewall
Hi!
I'm trying to build a linux ramdisk to load into my firewall computer so that I don't have to use a hard drive. I'm using PLD since its minimal install is around 100mb and it's similar to redhat, but I'm wondering if there is a better distro to use.
Currently, I've tried this:
1. Install PLD to a 120mb partition on a hard drive, and install the bootloader on that partition.
2. Use dd to create a raw image of the partition and put that on my tftp server for network booting.
3. From the firewall machine, I do a network boot and tell it to load memdisk for the kernel with initrd of the image file I created.
This doesn't work, and I'm think I'm missing something basic. How should I make my ramdisk and what should I use?
Thanks!
