kernel_config vs menuconfig

I have come across kernel_config a few times.I know how make menuconfig
works.It is used to select and save kernel configuration parameters.
What then does a make kernel_config do?
I have read it goes to kernel source tree and does a make menuconfig there.But then what is the diff between make menuconfiog and make kernel_menuconfig?
kindly suggest some links...I tried my best but could not find any..

user interface. One uses a vi like interface and the other is like the midnight commander. Try it.

thanx.. actually both show up a window where U can select whatever modules you want to either enable/disable.But I cant understand the diffr...
