kernel upgrade procedure


Hi everybody,
I am new Linux user and have heard that kernel upgradatino procedure is the typical process. Can any one give me the detail regarding the process involve in upgrading the kernel.I have downloaded linux kernel 2.4.21-xx from the net and I want to upgrade my kernel.

why have you been asking the same kinda question everywhere?
