Thumbs up

Hi,

with UBUNTU 2.6.17-10 on AMD 64 Athlon, I try to compile kernel 2.6.16.40 with KGDB(kgdb v for 2.6.16 base kernel) patched, but at boot time kernel is crashing giving the above message.

FYI i am pasting the log message:

I tried to resolve this issue by googling and all possible ways but i am leading to the same point.

1, I did make mrproper.
2, i copied doing config file of 2.6.17-10 to linux-2.6.16.40
3, In make menuconfig
>included ext3fs(not modular) into the kernel.
>KGDB related stuff according to the documentation
>Filesystem : pseudo fs support
4, make bzImage
5, make modules
6, make modules_install
7, mkinitrd -o /boot/initrd.img-2.6.16.40 /lib/modules/2.6.16.40
9, copied bzImage,system.map and initrd.img-2.6.16.40 to /boot of target m/c.
8, altered grub/menu.lst of target m/c according to that.
title kgdb, kernel 2.6.16.40
root (hd0,1)
kernel /boot/vmlinuz-2.6.16.40 ro root=/dev/hda2 kgdbwait
initrd /boot/initrd.img-2.6.16.40
boot

and even i tried editing /etc/fstab of target to include devpts.

But the problem remains the same...........

please help me in resolving this issue

Thanks in Advance.

Uhmm...

1 copied doing config file of 2.6.17-10 to linux-2.6.16.40
2, I did make mrproper.

I thought the second step would negate the first.
First make mrproper then pull over the .config or even better "#make oldconfig".

Hope this helps

I'm trying to solve my problem with KGDB (search for droneprime ), and I figure that the best way is to go around answering other KGDB threads that I have already encountered.

In your kernel boot line in /boot/grub/menu.lst, replace:

"kgdbwait"
with
"kgdb=ttyS0,38400 kgdboc=ttyS0,38400 kgdbwait"

That's the only advice I have...
