Kernel Panic: Attempted to kill init! Fedora Core 5

Hey
I just installed Fedora Core 5 and it crashed on boot. the only thing i've had to go on was the fact that after trying to start virtual console one, it came up with "Kernel Panic: Attempted to kill init!" I don't know where to start to try and fix it. I am not a newbie, but I can't figure this one out. My Setup: my root partition is about 10 GB, boot is on /(root(is that bad?), I have no swap because it wouldn't let put one in (I have 1 Gig of RAM any way). Right now I am running off my secondary Linux System, Slackware 10.2 and it boots and runs fine. Any suggestions?

A better explanation of this message is: "init has died."

init ("process #1") is not allowed to die.

Look at the messages which precede this one. There are various reasons why init can run into some situation where it cannot continue, especially at startup. Those are the real reason for the failure.
