Iam trying to CROSS compile 2.6.17.8 (ARM). The environment in which iam compiling is ok with 2.4 compilation. For 2.6 source, when i do make after make menuconfig, iam getting following error :

CHK include/linux/version.h
make[1]: `include/asm-arm/mach-types.h' is up to date.
CHK include/linux/compile.h
CC mm/page_alloc.o
In file included from include/linux/bio.h:28,
from include/linux/blkdev.h:14,
from mm/page_alloc.c:29:
include/asm/io.h:83:2: warning: #warning machine class uses old __arch_putw or __arch_getw
/tmp/ccNae95z.s: Assembler messages:
/tmp/ccNae95z.s:6909: Error: .err encountered
make[1]: *** [mm/page_alloc.o] Error 1
make: *** [mm] Error 2

Any help is highly appreciated.

Regards,
Neo

Have you tried an older kernel like 2.6.15 or so? If so, did you get the same error?
