[SOLVED] just wondering-is esmtp too old for now or not?

Dear, my mentors!

I've studying Kernel for contributing to.
And I've also done a coding issue patch once for testing(about 3~5 month before).

But now I want to start it for real.
And just wondering "kernernewbie.org"'s tutorial recommendation as "esmtp" for mail service. Is it too old for now? or ok to use now?

Yes, I am. And I'm wondering that if it could be old to use now or it is updated for these days.

Well, esmtp is newer than smtp which is still used. I'm not sure how wide-spread esmtp usage is though.
