is there an alternative to usb-robot software tool for Linux?

I am rookie at device driver programming. My objective is to write an application for USB slave device in linux.

So with baby steps, firstly I wanna simulate an environment such that a USB takes command(s) from host PC and then transfers data to that host after acknowledging those command(s). I have googled extensively for a software tool for communicating the host and the USB, but have found nothing better than usb-robot.

http://usb-robot.sourceforge.net/

But due to internal trivial reasons, i can't configure this utility on my linux system. So i request you to recommend alternatives to usb-robot.

Thank you. -Sai

I don't know whether it can do for you, but try to take a look here: http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/pyusb/
