Is it possible to make ubifs block size not power of 2

Looking through ubifs code it seems ubifs assumes
UBIFS_BLOCK_SIZE is a power of 2.
Is that a hard requirement for UBIFS design or can be easily changed. The reason we would like to try this is to reduce the space wastage on low capacity flash parts. We are trying to bringup UBIFS on an 8MiB flash which support 4KiB physical eraseblock but the requirement to keep UBIFS_BLOCK_SIZE to power to 2 causes lot of dark space.
Has somebody tried to change the block size, Is there a patch.

Best Regards,
Rajesh
