Red face ipv6 address which add by ifconfig command lost after eth down

I'm having a real problem with ifconfig,
first: i added a ipv6 address to eth2 of my host, and the result show its work,
second:i used the command ifconfig eth2 down to make the eth2 down, and up again.
third: i used the ip addr command to show the ip information, and found that the ipv6 address lost.
the fourth step:i test other eth dev,and the result is same as before.
what can i do ,the os i use is suse.
if you have a linux host and have a different test result, please tell me,thank you.
