Internet so slowly

I don't understand, I had the Kernel 2.4.33 in my Slackware (kernel default), but when I installed newest kernel (2.6.X) the navigation in the Internet is so slow, in this installation of the kernel (2.6.20.4) I used the config of my old kernel, but is the same, what can I do?

I will appreciate your prompt support.

Thanks

P.S. Sorry, but my english is not good

when you say slow is this a general thing across all browsers?
are downloads slow?
or is the refresh on the screen for webpages slow?

take a link to a large file and download it using a Konsole
does it go quick?
wget -c http://ftp.fsf.hu/OpenOffice.org/sta...E_en-US.tar.gz
