installing UBUNTU with the least amount of modules

Hey guys I'm trying to install ubuntu onto my laptop with the least amount modules. If you asking yourself why do I need the least amount of modules it's because it's a school assignment. Well I need some help how to start because it's my first time installing linux and I need to recompile a kernel with that too.

What do you mean by "least amount of modules"? Do you mean you want to remove the modules you don't explicitly need after the installation, or you would like to install it so the installed first kernel (before rebuild) contains minimum amount of modules?

As far as I know, installing Ubuntu installs a stock kernel that has modules you can't remove before it's installed. After the installation you probably can remove modules you don't need, but it's easier (in my opinion) to rebuild the whole kernel yourself..but it depends on how you think.
