i can't start the mandrakelinux 10.1
 
hi,

i need your help please regarding the mandrakelinux 10.1 installation,

each time i open the linux after complete the installing i got

localhost login: (here i enter my login name)

then it take me to the command prompt

[name@localhost name]$_

after that i type startx

and it gave me the following msg:

execve failed for /etc/X11/X (errno2)
giving up.
xinit: No such file or directory (errno 2): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.


it's first time i install the Linux software and i have no idea about how to operate it so if anybody can help and give me the right steps how to install it, i appreciate it

i download the software from the official mandrakesoft website and i paid for it,
and i have those files on iso format.

please helppp ( F1 F1 F1 )

Normally after you type in your login name you have to type in your password.
You can also type in su superuser and password to see what the problem is.
I used to use mandrake and never had to use startx but have used it on redhat.
On redhat I have to type in user name and then it asks for a password.

I guess you probably didn't install Xwindows onto your computer. Or the Mandrake 10.1 should start with Xwindow interface.
