how to test kernel modules using gprof


hi,

how to use gprof to generate report on kernel module.
i did using gcov and it is giving % of line executed and now i want to know time ticks taken by each individual function in kernel modules.
Please explain the steps, how to use gprof for kernel modules.

Hi -

AFAIK, "gprof" can only be used with user-space processes - *not* kernel-space modules.

Try Googling for "linux profile kernel module". You should find several hits, including some good "howto's" on kernel profiling.
