hello help me to change my grub password to edit the grub menu,I forgot it .I want to change the grub password without logging in as root user as i forgot my root password.
so i want to reset my root password by entering into the single user mode by editing the grub menu.but to to edit the grub menu it is required to give the password of grub on the menu page.so i wanna reset that password to reset the root password.help me plzzzzzzzzzzz...

in your /boot/grub/grub.conf file you'd have lines in each entry defining a password, e.g. " password --md5 $1$w7Epf0$vX6rxpozznLAVxZGkcFcs." just use md5crypt or a similar tool to change those strings. you can also get the encryption strings by running the "grub" command inside linux and using the md5crypt command there.
As you have lost both the grub password and root password. You can't edit grub.conf by logging in as another user. So nothing can be done as far as i know, if you get a solution plz share with us.
oh yes, i didn't see that bit, my bad. So use a live cd, e.g. your ubuntu installation CD, and mount the filesystems there, edit grub.conf in the equivalent location and change / remove the passwords there.
