Glad I could help you in some sort of way.
Believe it or not under the hood everything works more or less the same with a few tweaks for the different OSes.
Thanks for the link to the wine article, doesn't seem that they like version 12 of Dragon. Too bad, it works fine for me and gets better each time I use it, by far the best VR program I have ever used and I have used 3 over the past decades.

I sort of thought there was a common thread among all the versions, but geez all those commands, I better get started with my list / cheat sheet

Exclamation Install of 17.3 didn't get me the kernel approved for use in it...Grrr!

I finally took the bull by the horns and installed 17.3 after using the Live DVD for a week or so with no troubles.

Whilst using that disc I checked the kernel in use and it was 3.19.0-32 after the install and reboot I find that Rosa is still using the older kernel 3.13.0.24! Looking in the Update Manager I see that 3.19.0-32 is the recommended one.

Sure I could choose it and install it but I'd be right back where I started with this thread How do I get rid of the OLD kernel ....easily?

I thought sure when I upgraded to 17.3 I'd get the new kernel too but I was mistaken.

Thanks,

"If"

older kernels show up in the grub list unless they are not installed or uninstalled.
If you install 17.3, then, you likely wont see the other older kernel.
But since it worked in the live dvd then it should be fine.

Maybe make a new backup of your current system, then install the newer os.
