Unhappy Help reg:message supressing


hi Folks,

iam a newbie in linux kernel, while walking the some older project code i saw a statement which is as under


echo 3 > /proc/sys/kernel/printk

with comments "off all console messages above it"

can anybody please explain me

what does it mean?

how it will work?
