Hello everybody, I am a newbie......and I could use some assistance if possible?

I download Linux Ultimate Mint Live V1.5 for 32 bit, off of an ISO file and installed it. Now, its asking me for a user name and password? I never had one to begin with...is there one I can put in to override whatever it may have ever had or is there a standard one or something?

How can I make this program work, if I have no access to any password it may have ever had?

Please don't double-post. If you do, and people give you several answers that could be useful to other people, how are they going to find the answers if they're in different threads?

When you install Mint, it asks you at one point to provide a username and password. This is a new user name and password, not one you're supposed to know already! Decide what username you want to use, set a password for it and enter them both. When you reboot into your new installation, this is the name and password you will use to log in.

Mint, like Ubuntu, assigns what are called sudo rights to the user created during the installation. That means that you can later carry out administrative tasks by using the sudo command prefix and entering your password. Other users, if you create any later on, will not have those powers.

When you boot your new Mint installation, you will be asked for a username and password. Just enter the ones you created when you installed it.

This may not apply but there has been a bug in those distros on some very select hardware that simply can't get past the log on screen.

Any chance you typed in a user and a password when you ran the installer program?

is this the ultimate you talk about: http://ultimateedition.info/ ?

if so, it is not the first time people complain about it.
it's a weird ubuntu-based 1 man project iirc.
please choose a more popular and better developed distro:

tigerlily7,

As ondoho has mentioned, it is not the first time people have complained about Linux Ultimate Mint Live.

The sourceforge site specifically states:
NOTICE: This is an unofficial release and not part of official Linux Mint project.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/ult...xmintcinnamon/

What hardware are you using?

Make/model, RAM, CPU details would be helpful.

Seeings how you just installed it and now for whatever reasons cannot get into it due to whatever reasons related to user name / password. This would/might be a good time saver. Just reinstall it again.

This time look for the areas where it asks you for root password (if they even do that in that distro, cough cough which every Linux/GNU should but no longer do) and a user name / password area. Insert name and a password you can remember without the need to write it down.

Benefits: Hands on practice in the install procedure.
Repetition leads to perfection.
