Unhappy FC7 Kernel 2.6.19 recompiling error

After a significant amount of time recompiling the linux kernel, after the make modules_install install command in the very end of the process i get this:

.
.
.
.
...several other modules installed
.
.
.
INSTALL sound/usb/snd-usb-audio.ko
INSTALL sound/usb/snd-usb-lib.ko
INSTALL sound/usb/usx2y/snd-usb-usx2y.ko
if [ -r System.map -a -x /sbin/depmod ]; then /sbin/depmod -ae -F System.map 2.6.19; fi
/bin/sh: line 1: 17541 Killed /sbin/depmod -ae -F System.map 2.6.19
make: *** [_modinst_post] Error 137

The process ends and there is no new image compiled on the /boot

Now i have no idea whats going on...never happened before.

Any thoughts?

thanks all

What steps did to take prior to running make modules-install????

The steps in order are;

<prep the kernel source if using a supplied source rpm file>
make mrproper
make oldconfig ;<or use a known good working kernel config file here>
make menuconfig [or xconfig or gconfig]
make
make modules_install
make install

Something to download / extract / review / have handy: http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kern...kn_pdf.tar.bz2

If this is your first attempt at [re]building a kernel just remember if at first you do not succeed try try again. When I fist attempted building a kernel (back in 1998) I failed at least 6-12 times, sorry I forget the exact number as I have slept at least once or twice since then

my steps were

downloaded the kernel version and untar it
then applied a patch for the kernel needed for my tasks (RTAI in this case)

patch -p1 < ../rtai-3.5.....
**patch went successful

cp /boot/config.... /usr/src/linux-2.6.19/.config
make menuconfig (selected the needed features)

make && make modules_install install

and thats it

i've already recompiled tons of kernels, but this is the first time that error occurs to me....kinda lost in here then.

Try just running the make modules_install again - the depmod shouldn't fail.
