Debian kernel recompilation troubles (2.6.18 and lilo)
I come here because of a rather large problem. I recompiled my kernel (2.6.18-3) today in order to get bootsplash support. The recompile was successful; incorporating the changes into my lilo installation, however, was not. I booted from an Ubuntu LiveCD I had laying around, and took out the section in /etc/lilo.conf that enables the bootsplash (namely the vga and append lines). I'm in Mac OS right now, so I don't have access to my /etc/lilo.conf, but anyway... I rebooted, fairly confident my fix would've ... well ... fixed my Linux installation. Instead, I get dumped out onto a text-mode input and find myself wondering what the heck just happened. I rebooted into Mac OS X and here I am writing this post.
Here are my specifications:
Apple MacBook Core 2 Duo 1.83 GHz
Mac OS X Tiger 10.4.8
Debian Etch 4.0 RC1 (2.6.18-3-686)
Lilo is the bootloader as per the instructions at the Debian Wiki.
