Are these directions correct? They do not say
anything about "make modules."

Yes. make-kpkg compiles everything for you. That's what it was designed for, to streamline the whole build process.

I removed restricted modules package that goes with the ubuntu stock kernel. Now how can I get modules such as ndiswrapper and vmware?
