Compiling on Xen VPS

I currently have a Xen VPS and would like to compile a kernel with a few tweaked settings. I have spoken with my provider and they confirmed that custom kernels should be fine.

However as soon as you put "compile kernel xen" into google you start getting guides on how to compile kernels for Xen hosts and the information gets convoluted and confusing.

I have tried following a few guides on how to compile for a normal physical host and have successfully compiled a kernel but on reboot the VPS did not turn on.

Is there anything special you have to do when compiling a kernel for use in Xen?

I am using Ubuntu 10.10.

Thank you for reading,

Are you trying to build a paravirtualized kernel for use in a XEN server environment or build the XEN kernel to run the hypervisor?

Sorry I was not clearer, this is why I was having trouble searching for help :).

I am trying to compile paravirtualized kernel for use on my VPS (on the Xen platform).

Here's one HOW-TO

From a brief peek at this tutorial it seems to indicate the options you need to turn on in the config file for your custom kernel to enable it as a PV guest.
