Can't boot with SUSE 9.3 - trying to install on system with IDE drive and SADA drive

I bought SUSE 9.3 last year. Tried to get it running on an old system. I bought a new 80GB IDE drive for it. I since got a new system with a SADA 160GB drive. I have XP running on it and installed 80GB IDE drive for Linux. I have the IDE drive configured as Master and CD ROM as slave (by dip switches) and after installation, I cannot get the Linux system to boot. I called the support and they said I should try to get a CD from someone who has this working on a mixed system. I have dail up only for internet connection. Has anyone got this to work?

SuSe 9.3 is not the excellent distro, I set it up on my computer alas, alas...
I have experienced problems with installing kernel loader (both grub and lilo). Did you have the same problem?
I solved it creating a distinct boot partition (suppose /dev/hda1) about 15 Mb.
