after building 3.1.0-rc1+, I get waiting for root fs error when booting

I search the web, and some people mentioned it due to the ext4 problem.

I add this feature in my kernel, but still couldn't boot.

BTW, my root fs is ext2.

hi,
does the 3.1.0 have the corresponding config and System.map?
did you make initrd with -m ext2?

Sorry for the late response, I stuck on other issue...

I have the System.map, should I upload?
No, I didn't use -m ext2. But when I build 2.6.3x, I neither use -m ext2.

Hi,

Since I just could access my machine after work, I check again.

I use this command to creat initrd
mkinitramfs 3.1.0-rc1+ -o /boot/initrd.img-3.1.0-rc1+
and I man this command, and don't find the -m option.
Then I am not sure how to create the initrd?

it's just a wild guess but did you compile the new kernel with the same config as the old one? Didn't you forget to check some options for the filesystem or the hard drive you're using? Did you also install the modules after the compilation?

Thanks!

I rebuild kernel with old config.
And it works!

Though I don't know with option I changed.
