2.6.17.8 build kernel probs..

Been trying to build 2.6.17.8 kernel (on slackware 10.2)

Reboot results in following:
VFS: Cannot open root device "307" or unknown-block(3,7)
Please append a correct "root=" boot option
Kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount fs on unknown-block(3,7)

Is this a /etc/lilo.conf problem?

Thanks,

-Kenyon

It looks like either your bootloader is looking in the wrong place for your root filesystem, or you kernel doesnt have support for the filesystem compiled in.

But still don't see how to fix the problem.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Problem solved, I used a lifeline (called a friend).
...

Turns out I needed to reconfigure kernel (/usr/src/.config)

# cd /usr/src/linux
# make xconfig # reconfigure kernel, nice GUI
# make bzImage

Problem disappeared.

Each step is posted at:
http://phoenix.csc.calpoly.edu/~kvoe...ld-kernel.html

Cheers to you all,

Kenyon
