ZyXEL Prestige 630C-1 (I really am desperate)
Hi fellow Linux users...
Here is my story... It is really long so I apologize in advance. After one week of Linux/Unix console experience in LiveCDs without X servers I decided to install a Linux with an X server on my Win XP machine. I partitioned the drive into 3 partitions. One was for WinXp, one for root and the other for swap. The distro I installed was Mandrake 9.0 Dolphin Edition. I know 9.0 is very old but I had no other choice really. I found the CD from a friend. So everything in the installation went perfect. I installed the 2.4.19 Kernel and LILO bootloader successfully. But when it came to networking I selected ADSL. The OS wouldn't recognize my ZyXEL 630C-1 ADSL USB Modem. I thought I'd skip this option and come back to it after the installation. I rebooted, booted with XP and ran a search through the internet. I dowloaded these programs... RP PPPOE 3.5 Accessrunner But I realy couldn't figure out how to use them. I tried things.. But the machine still refuses to recognize my Modem. When I type usbview in Konsole, I can see that it knows there actually is an ADSL USB MODEM in the USB port... But when I start Harddrake, I can't see a USB Modem there... When I use cxstart.sh, It says "I didn't find an ADSL USB MODEM!" My modem's DSL light doesn't turn on either. And finally, when I turned on XP this morning I saw that XP couldn't connect to the internet either. With the 691 Server error. I thought MAndrake had cracked my modem too!!!! I have a PPPOE(ADSL over POTS) line with VPI = 8, VCI = 35 I loved the KDE 3.0 interface but if it will deprive me of my Internet connection I'm ready to give it up!!!!! Now I am in a cafe, writing to Linuxquestions.org , I just came back from the dentist and I can't feel the left half of my mouth, it is very hot in here, sweat is running down my forehead, so imagine my desperacy and PLEASE help me!!!! desperate_penguin:newbie:     EDIT --- My home internet connection from XP is back to normal. It seems that the exam results that were announced today and too ay people logging on caused this temporary overload on the server. |
glad it fixed itself! :D
Linux isn't some kind of an evil hardwares killer, even if it may seems like this sometime. Don't woory. |
umm.. so ll right but how do I set the modem up now?
