Zoom LT Winmodem

I've installed Mandrake 10 with success, however my modem isn't liked very much. My zoom Lucent modem comes up as an LT Winmodem. When I try to configure the modem in mandrake control center it tells me my modem is only supported by 2.4 and higher kernals. Isn't Mandrake 10 using the 2.6 kernal? So, wouldn't it make sense that it would support this modem. I've read that there was success under Suse & the 2.6 kernal. Any ideas anyone?
