Zoom 3205c and Debian

I am trying to set up an answering machine using debian and VOCP. I have a Zoom 3205c modem with Conexant chipset. I DO NOT need dialup cababilities, just to answer the phone. DO I need the pay drivers from linuxant website or will the free drivers work?

"a free version (limited to 14.4Kbps data), available at no cost. Please use it to test if your hardware is compatible.

a full version (with 56K and FAX), available for a modest price."

so i have to pay for 56k drvs :(

That's correct. I believe that this is wrong, "Modest Price". However, the free drivers say for data only, the pay drivers are data/fax. This won't help me at all since I only want the voice features. 56k modems are cheap so I am going to abandon the Zoom and get an external. Unless someone knows a workaround?
