Zoom 3090 usb modem

I've read some posts and sites that say this modem won't work under linux and isn't supported, and www.linuxant.com also says it doesn't work with linux, but then says its an HCF (controllerless) modem... which i'm not sure what that exactly means seeing as i'm new to linux... but there's a generic driver for that on the site...

has anyone gotten this modem to work? or knows if it's possible?

if not, do you have a recomendation for a decent (but hopefully cheap) v.92 modem that won't be too hard to get working under mandrake 9.0? (internal or external, it doesn't really matter)

thanks.

hmm, i did a search on that page for my modem and it only brought up 1 result which is a page i already saw that said it "might" work but it's not officially supported so there's no specific drivers for it...

so thats why i was wondering what that "might" means? does it or does it now work? what driver would i have to use?
